Strong together: How Cuby connects data and community for sustainable heating solutions

23-10-2025

Top-down
By the end of 2026, all municipalities must have developed heat programs based on the previously developed heat transition vision. Heat transition visions are developed by experts and reviewed by residents.

To bottom-Up
A heat program for a district or neighbourhood must have the support of residents. This means that municipal policymakers and their advisors must develop scenarios. With these scenarios, they guide residents in choosing the heat program that best suits their neighbourhood, as well as their individual situation.

Specific needs
To develop these scenarios, advisors who create heat programs for municipalities require significantly more datasets than those used to develop the heat transition vision. Cuby uses an innovative approach to link and visualize large datasets containing building information from numerous technical data sources. These linked datasets are crucial for developing scenarios that lead to customized heat programs that meet the specific needs of residents in the neighbourhood. Advisors do not have to search for and validate these data sets themselves and can create scenarios more quickly.

Data linking
Cuby links data from various sources, such as energy suppliers, municipal databases, and building cost indicators, to data on individual homes in the neighbourhood. This information includes details on energy consumption, insulation, and current heating systems. By integrating these datasets, a complete and easily understandable picture of the energy infrastructure of all individual homes in a neighbourhood is created.

Visualization in scenarios
Using advanced visualization tools, the linked data is converted into understandable scenarios. Policymakers and residents can view and adjust these scenarios via interactive dashboards. These dashboards present various heating supply options, such as the implementation of district heating networks or renewable energy sources.

Collaboration with residents
The strength of this approach lies in the collaboration between policymakers and residents. By actively involving them in the process, they can share their wishes and concerns. This ensures that the customized heating program is not only technically feasible but also aligns with the social and economic context of the neighbourhood.

Result
Ultimately, this integration of data and collaboration leads to an effective and sustainable heating program that promotes the energy transition in the neighborhood. Cuby enables us to create a future-proof and comfortable living environment together, where everyone has a voice in decision-making. Are you curious about Cuby or would you like a demo?
